The Register Guard reports that once again a group of lawbreakers in Salem are debating whether to grant illegal alien students in-state tuition to Oregon colleges.
This is the fourth campaign in eight years and goes by the name of HB 2939.

“It’s about equality and accessibility,” said University of Oregon student Rachel Cushman. “We basically set students up to go to school and then deny them that. It’s just horrible.”

No mention about legality or propriety.

An analysis four years ago on a similar proposal concluded that it would increase costs to the Oregon University System by $2 million if 80 noncitizen students attended a public university and paid in-state tuition.

"The bill arrived with bipartisan support from Rhino. Sens. Dave Nelson of Pendleton and Frank Morse of Albany, as well as Democratic Rep. Michael Dembrow of Portland. The Education Committee chairwoman, Rep. Sara Gelser, D-Corvallis, said she is interested in moving the bill."

Columbia County Ordinance Ruled Unenforceable

In a valiant effort to quell the illegal invasion, the Oregon Columbia County tried to implement an ordinance which states any employer caught hiring illegal immigrants would be fined or shut down.

However, Columbia County Circuit Judge Ted Grove has declared the measure and ordinance unenforceable and moot because of conflicts with the federal law and various state authorities.
In a letter dated today to attorneys in the case, Grove stated that these provisions violate a section of the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1983, which states, "The provisions of this section preempt any state or local law imposing civil or criminal sanctions (other than through licensing or similar laws) upon those who employ or recruit or refer for a fee employment, unauthorized aliens."

Well, back to the drawing board.

A lot has already been documented about Obama's hypocritical nature concerning campaign pledges and office reality. Here is just another example of do as I say and not as I do:

If you're old enough to remember the forgettable Jimmy Carter presidency you will probably also remember that during the energy shortage he installed solar panels on the roof and lowered the thermostat in the White House and wore sweaters to keep warm. A noble jesture indeed.

Last May Mr. Obama said this: “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times… and then just expect that other countries are going to say ‘OK.’ … That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”

The New York Times reported on Thursday, January 29 that:

“…the capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.

“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Oh yes on the "we cant drive our SUV's and eat as much as we want". Apparently that doesn't apply to the President. The British Sun reports: "BARACK Obama liked a restaurant’s pizzas so much he has flown the chef 850 miles to make some at the White House.

The US President got a taste for Chris Sommers’ pizza while campaigning in St Louis, Missouri, last year.

After Mr Obama’s election win, Chris offered to deliver frozen pizzas to the White House but was told he couldn’t because of security concerns.

So he took 20lb of dough and three gallons of sauce to Washington.

Chris was due to cook lunch at the White House yesterday, reported People.com. He said: “It’s surreal. It’s a huge honour.”

Give Until It Hurts

Stop me if you read this one. THE GIVE ACT (H.R. 1388. You probably haven't and neither have most of the Congress I suspect. This initiative was one of Obama's main talking points during the campaign so I guess I can't call him on this one.
This act sounds OK I guess, you know, kids volunteering in service to America, you know, giving back. This bill whisked through the House and is now being fast-tracked through the Senate.

What wasn't advertised during the campaign was the real agenda hidden in the small print.
For example, the House version of the bill, in Section 6104, directs a committee to study: "The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service. (6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds." Actually this part was taken out of the original bill and resubmitted under a separate bill H.R. 1444. There is also language in the House bill (Section 115) which requires private schools to include their students in these programs and requires private school teachers to take training so that they can "carry out the objectives" of the bill.

In California, homeschoolers are registered as private schools which might mean that even those who opt out of the school system could not opt out of this requirement.

If this act is really voluntary what is the need for a study on the advantages of making it mandatory? Also what is the need to make sure private schools and homeschoolers are forced to participate in this?

I wonder if they provide the Brown Shirts and Armbands or do you have to provide your own?
Who would have thought that the first black president would advocate slavery?

Hold on to your mouse, the U.S. Senate would grant the White House sweeping new powers to access private online dat, regulate the cybersecurity industry and even shut down internet traffic during a declared "cyber emergency".
The Senate bills are No. 773 and 778 introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller and are both part of what is being called the Cybersecurity Act of 2009. These bills would create a new Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, reportable directly to the president and charged with defending the country from cyber attack.
The The Cyber Strategic Inquiry 2008, sponsored by Business Executives for National Security
and executed by Booz Allen Hamilton, recommended
to ‘‘establish a single voice for cybersecurity within
government’’ concluding that the ‘‘unique nature of
cybersecurity requires a new leadership paradigm."

These measures are being promoted by ex-President Bush's Director of National Intelligence, Michael McConnell. Mr. McConnell just happens to be the former director of the NSA and is the current director of defense programs at Booz Allen, one of the largest defense and intelligence contractors.
Booz Allen had millions of dollars worth of contracts with the TIA program that was found to be spying on American citizens, antiwar protesters, etc.
They were one of the subcontractors working with the NSA to illegally wiretap American phones.

While internet security is surely one of the most important problems confronting us today, I am not comfortable with the government having even more control. Given their track record for treating the Constitution as a door-mat and their interest in shutting down opposition voices be afraid, be very, very afraid.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

Every time it rains, it rains, pennies from heaven.
In Colorado it does. Apparently it's against the law there to collect rain water. Not satisfied with just selling water rights to water in rivers, streams and lakes, Colorado insists that the government owns the water that falls on your property. It should be allowed to fall to the ground and flow unimpeded into surrounding creeks and streams, the law states, to become the property of farmers, ranchers, developers and water agencies that have bought the rights to those waterways.

"If you try to collect rainwater, well, that water really belongs to someone else," said Doug Kemper, executive director of the Colorado Water Congress. "We get into a very detailed accounting on every little drop."

Frank Jaeger of the Parker Water and Sanitation District, on the arid foothills south of Denver, sees water harvesting as an insidious attempt to take water from entities that have paid dearly for the resource.

"Every drop of water that comes down keeps the ground wet and helps the flow of the river," Jaeger said. He scoffs at arguments that harvesters like Holstrom only take a few drops from rivers. "Everything always starts with one little bite at a time."

In other words, we can't keep track of millions of illegal aliens but we can track every drop of water.

Nancy Pelosi recently defended the hundreds of millions of dollars earmarked for family planning (abortion, birth control) in the latest stimulus package by insisting that children are too expensive and a drag on the economy. This from the mother of 5 with 6 grandchildren.

Now two Oregon State University academics have jumped on the population issue by issuing a paper that connects two of the leading progressive agenda's planks, population control and carbon emissions.

Paul Murtaugh and Michael Schlax contend that recycling, driving less, changing light bulbs etc. are a noble effort to reduce CO2 emissions, but that action is totally overwhelmed by having just one child. They propose to link a persons carbon output to each continuing generation.

The government has recently decided that "climate change" is a national health issue. They have declared that children are an economic liability and now contributing to global warming.

But hey, IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE!
Or can it? I never thought that the U.S. would own banks, tell private companies how much they could pay CEOs or tell the automobile industry how they should operate.

It's official. The building that is being erected on the ground zero site and dedicated to the resolve of the American people will not be named "The Freedom Tower" after all. It appears that the Port Authority chairman Anthony Coscia is having a hard time marketing the tower under the name "Freedom Tower" and prefers "One World Trade Center". Others fear that the 102 story Freedom Tower's name could make it more susceptible to future attacks than a symbol of defiance against it.

Yeah right! What was the name of the original tower that was attacked twice? Oh yeah, One World Trade Center.....How's that been working for you so far?

By the way, "Agency chairman Anthony Coscia was more critical in remarks Thursday, when the Port Authority announced its first corporate lease at the tower with a Chinese business center."
Could it be that the Chinese have a problem with the name "FREEDOM"?

Global Warming, Cooling could be Harmful, Good for you.

If you have anything left in your wallet you better hold on to it. The government is ramping up it's effort to commit us in the U.N. scam of carbon cap and trade.
The EPA recently prepared a finding for review that global warming is a public health threat.
We are often told how the pursuit of alternative energy will create lots of "green" jobs.
The EPA's dire finding echoes last month's testimony by Howard Franklin, who directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health, before a Senate Committee. Franklin said the CDC "considers climate change a serious public health concern" that could accelerate illnesses and deaths from heat waves, air pollution, and food- and water-borne diseases.

But wait. Before you swallow this entire line let's remember that warming may actually save lives. Warmer weather means longer growing seasons for both food and the raw materials for biofuels. Ironically, the push to biofuels has caused hunger and food riots around the world as crops are diverted and food prices rise. The environment is harmed due to increased biofuel cultivation and agricultural runoff.

Bjorn Lomborg, author of the book "The Skeptical Environmentalist," has said the cost of a Kyoto-like pact "just for the U.S. will be higher than the cost of providing the entire world with clean drinking water and sanitation. It's estimated the latter would prevent 2 million deaths (from diseases like infant diarrhea) a year and prevent half a billion people from becoming seriously ill each year."

According to a Heritage Foundation analysis, "using the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases will be very costly, even given the most generous assumptions." Clean Air Act regulation of greenhouse gases "could spur additional investment," Heritage acknowledges, but "this investment was completely undermined by the higher energy prices."

So much so, says Heritage, that "cumulative GDP losses for 2010 to 2029 approach $7 trillion with single-year losses of nearly $650 billion." Annual job losses would exceed 800,000 for several years, with some industries experiencing job losses exceeding 50%.

Why does Keith Obermann have a TV show?

Smart Ass Keith Obermann(starting at about 1:50) does his best to belittle Freshman congressman Bill Posey of Florida who authored a bill requiring documentation for future presidential candidates proving that they are qualified to run for president. The inititive for this bill is of course President Obama's continuing reluctuance to provide adequite proof to any of us that question is birth qualifications, health records and school records. (This from Mr. Open Government).
Obermann, or should I say Lesserman, goes on to say "you could grow a pair Mr. Posey and tell the racists and assorted other nutbags in your Republican Party it's time for them t put away the 'shrooms and except the president's birth certificate was all the proof required and that they should stop embarrasing themselves... so Congressman stop embarassing yourself and take the Reynold's Wrap off your head.

If Mr. Lesserman would pull his head out of his ass he might realize that those questioning Obama's qualification are not racists, not nutbags and not all Republicans and not on 'srooms. Also I doubt your qualifications if you don't know the difference between "Proof of Live Birth" and a "Birth Certificate". May I suggest that you grow a pair and do your job. Or is your job to just deficate on good Americans?

I swear in all that's politically correctly holy this is what our new Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had to say about "terrorism". From Spiegel On Line.

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word "terrorism." Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

Napolitano: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

Napolitano: Our policies will be guided by authoritative information. We also have assets at our disposal now that we did not have prior to 9/11. For example, we are much better able to keep track of travellers coming into the US than we were before. Yeah tell that to the illegal aliens in this country.

Napolitano: In some ways, the problem in Europe is greater than in the United States. But the questions are the same. How do you identify a youth who is susceptible to becoming radicalized? How do you work with that youth, his family and community to give them alternatives to radicalization?

SPIEGEL: Would you characterize such social measures as a task of your agency?

Napolitano: Yes. In fact, we have group within my agency, the civil liberties group, and they have a focus right now on that issue. Yeah and these civil liberties groups will see to it that it is as hard as possible to identify these radicals and if we do they will do everything they can to aid and abet them.

Look it up!

It's official. The definition of marriage now includes same sex couples. Even though almost every state in the Union has voted to keep marriage defined as the union of two people of the opposite sex, the Merriam-Webster dictionary has decided to include same-sex couples in their definition of marriage.
Perhaps the editors or Merriam-Webster should look up the definition of "political correctness".

Homeland Security official Roger Rufe said a department plan to respond to escalating violence on the southwest border includes — as a last resort — deploying military personnel and equipment to the region if homeland security agencies become overwhelmed.

Rufe, echoing comments a day earlier from President Barack Obama, said now is not the time to militarize the southwest border.



When a nut goes crazy in Alabama and kills 10 family members and then himself the government doesn't seem to have any problem with calling in the military. I'm just sayin'.

President Obama seems to have an unprecedented problem filling his cabinet. It appears that his circle of "Family and Friends" is populated with people that don't pay their taxes or have other legal issues. The following is a list of some of the "hope and change" nominees that didn't make the cut, and a couple who were actually confirmed:
Tom Daschle-Health and Human Services Services, admitting that he failed to lpay more than $100,000 in taxes on a car and driver.

Nancy Killefer- withdrew because of a lien against her home for failure to pay unemployment tax for household help.

Hilda Solis-Labor Secretary, confirmed on Febuary 11 even though her husband had liens on his business going back 16 years.

Tim Geithner- confirmed on Febuary 24 for Treasury Secretary, failed to pay $34,000 in self-employment taxes.

Susan Tierney, Deputy Sec. of Energy, dropped out on March 3, without citing a reason.

Jane Garvey, Dep. Sec. of Transportation, dropped out on March 3, reportedly for financial reasons.

Former Dallas Democratic Mayor Ron Kirk, nominated for Trade Representative, failed to pay $10,000 in back taxes for speaking fees over three years.

Annette Nazareth, Caroline Atkinson and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, withdrew for personal reasons.

Datalogic Scanning, a barcode scanner maker in Eugene, plans to open a factory in Vietnam in June, company officials said on Friday.
They said they do not anticipate the new plant in Ho Chi Minh City will have any significant impact on the company 's manufacturing and design centers in Eugene; Bologna, Italy; or Trnava, Czech Republic.

The Vietnam factory will export nearly all of what it produces, company officials said.

Datalogic Scanning, a division of an Italian company , has about 433 employees, including some temporary workers, at its facility in west Eugene, vice president for human resources Rhone Lee said. A separate division, Datalogic Mobile, has about 110 employees in Eugene, he said.

By early April, Datalogic will implement a wage freeze for 200 salaried employees - executives, managers, professionals and others - in the United States, Lee said. Blue-collar workers will continue to be eligible for raises, he said.

And starting next week, about 120 to 150 production employees in Eugene will begin working a four-day week, Tuesday through Friday.

Lee said the cost-cutting measures in Eugene are unrelated to Datalogic Scanning's plans to open a subsidiary in Vietnam.

The Saigon High Tech Park in Vietnam recently posted an article on its Web site referring to Datalogic's investment in the business park.

"That announcement was not authorized," West said, "so we were a little bit surprised by it." It prompted Datalogic Scanning to inform its Eugene employees on Friday about the plans to open a facility in Vietnam, he said.

The article said that Datalogic "had committed capital of $46 million" and that the factory would employ 500 people.

Is Wikipedia politically correct?

It's true that whenever the subject of Wikipedia being used as a reference tool comes up it is usually followed by "it's a good starting point but remember the material is contributed by the public and should be double checked". Unfortunately, it appears that even Wikipedia is being editted to provide a certain political point of view.
According to Wikipedia rules, however, a "fringe theory can be considered notable if it has been referenced extensively, and in a serious manner, in at least one major publication, or by a notable group or individual that is independent of the theory." That being said, why is Wikipedia refusing to allow any reference to the ongoing debate about Barack Obama's dubious eligiblility to legally be president? The issue has been reported extensively by multiple news media outlets including
World Net Daily, The Daily Mail in Britain, the Chicago Tribune and AOL news.
The following addition to Obama's entry was submitted twice by user "Jerusalem 21" and removed within minutes by the Wikipedia editors. References to Obama's association with the incendiary Reverend Wright and Weatherman Bill Ayers were likewise deleted. On the other hand in the George W Bush site there are many unfavorable references such as "multiple accounts of alcohol abuse, the handling of Hurricane Katrina, his favorable treatment during his National Guard service, and possible inside trading on stock sales.

On a personal note, during the resent national political conventions I was trying to find You Tube examples of violence at both conventions and found that while the Republican convention was heavily covered, the Democratic convention had almost all examples of violence or police activity removed. The subjects were posted but the videos were systematically removed.

Homeland Security?

Remember the next time the government or the media go on and on about the possiblity of terrorists thousands of miles away could get a hold of nuclear material and attack us with a dirty bomb or suitcase nuke they are really serious about protecting Americans. That's why they have done such a great job at securing our borders (not). They also have done a tremendous job keeping track of extraneous nuclear material within our borders right? Not so much it appears.

The U.S. Department of Energy cannot account for the quantities and locations of nuclear material at 15 out of 40, or 37 percent, of facilities reviewed by auditors, according to a report released on Monday by Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman. The missing materials included 20,580 grams of enriched uranium, 45 grams of plutonium, 5,001 kilograms of normal uranium and 189,139 kilograms of depleted uranium.

“The department cannot properly account for and effectively manage its nuclear materials maintained by domestic licensees and may be unable to detect lost or stolen material,” the report stated. “Considering the potential health risks associated with these materials and the potential for misuse should they fall into the wrong hands, the quantities written off were significant.”

”Key commitments made by the department were not completed nearly eight years after our earlier audit,” Friedman stated.

Let me get this straight-material from 15 out of 40 facilities is missing and rather than follow up on this they just right it off.

According to Sen. Ron Wyden:
“I think there is a bipartisan consensus in the Senate that the science is in,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, told CSNews.com when asked if the government should implement new policies to apparently combat global warming despite the new study. “This is a very real problem. Now the debate is on the remedies -- but the science is in.”

Well there may be a consensus in the Senate but there is still not a consensus in the scientific community. Saying there is does not make it so.

The study, released on Jan. 28 by Kyle L. Swanson and Anastasios A. Tsonis, who are professors in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, found that the Earth has been cooling since 2001 and projected that due to “global variation” the climate would continue to cool for the next 20 to 30 years.



Global warming, global cooling, I don't know but I do know that there is way too much financial manipulation going on in order to capitalize on the fears that people have concerning this situation.
Stifling Oregon's economy even further will not effect the global climate. With China and India putting 2 coal burning electrical plants into service per week we are just aren't that critical.
Ride your bike when possible. Use less. Recycle. Buy local. Let's rebuild our local economy and help our neighbors, not spend time and money to create roadblocks to our future.

COBURG — Oregon State Police troopers on Tuesday arrested two California residents after finding drugs, guns, a set of body armor and nearly $10,000 in their car.

Juan Francisco Jimenez Jr. and Alenia Rosario Nunez were lodged in the Lane County Jail on several felony charges.

Police said a trooper patrolling Interstate 5 about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe just north of Coburg for speeding.

The trooper checked to see if the occupants — Jimenez and Nunez — were wanted, and learned that Jimenez was being sought by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Police said the trooper searched the vehicle and found about 14 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of methamphetamine, two loaded handguns — one of which had been reported as stolen, a set of body armor and about $9,500 in cash.

Jimenez and Nunez face charges of drug possession and money laundering. Jimenez, 34, is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and a felon in possession of body armor. Nunez, 26, faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Both people live in the Los Angeles area, police said.

Employee Appreciation 101

Here is a good old American success story that will get buried under the continuing saga of corrupt politicians, CEO's and bankers giving themselves huge bonuses with our money.
Leonard Abess Jr. the CEO of the Miami-based City National Bancshares retired and sold a majority stake of the bank. Rather than just pocketing the profits he did something rather unusual, he took $60 million out of his own pocket and gave it to the 399 workers on the staff and even 72 former employees that had been with him for a long time. This amounted to tens of thousands of dollars and in some cases, more than one hundred thousand.
I love one of his quotes: " I saw that if the president doesn't come to work, it's not a big deal, he said, But if the tellers don't show up, it's a serious problem."

At 3 a.m. Mountain time former Border Patrol agent Jose Compean was released from the Elkton Federal Prison in Elkton, Ohio. Former agent Ignacio Ramos was released about five hours later from the Phoenix Federal Prison in Phoenix, Ariz.

Ramos and Compean will “officially” be released from Federal Bureau of Prison custody on March 20, but on Tuesday both were allowed to rejoin their families as part of a house arrest agreement. They had been in prison since January 2007.

At the latest TED convention, Bill Gates used a bit of street theater to infect the audience with good old fashioned guilt. Proclaiming that malaria shouldn't be enjoyed by only poor people he released a jar of mosquitoes in the room. He later said that the mosquitoes were not malarial.
While this may have been a very effective display, not too many people have mentioned that even if the mosquitoes did not have malaria, they still can carry up to 50 other vectors and some people are allergic to mosquito bites just like some people have reaction to bee stings or spider bites. Another thing that wasn't mentioned was that bringing insects into California is a very serious matter. The Med-fly, West Nile Virus, lots of problems for the fruit and tree growers.
I just hope that the mosquitoes were native Californians.

Bill's lucky he didn't try this stunt on the Eugene Mall or he might be the next one with his face on the sidewalk crying "Don't Tase Me Bro."

One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."

This eugenics-lite philosophy is coming from the mother of 5 and grandmother of 7.

What's In It For Me-Al Franken?

Why does it seem that most of the people that want to run our lives don't seem to be able to handle their own affairs worth a damn. From the crooked Obama nominees to Portland's new mayor, they somehow think that laws and rules are for the common sheeple.
Not funny, funnyman Al Franken has just admitted that he owes over $50,000 in back taxes and penalties. He also was hit with a $25,000 penalty for failing to carry worker's comp insurance for his employees in New York. He blames the shortage on his accountant. This is just slightly more plausible than Tom Daschle's Turbo Tax excuse.
Franken is also demanding that the Minnesota Supreme Court direct the Governor and the Sec. of State issue an election certificate declaring him the winner of the senate election even though under current Minnesota law, a winner cannot be certified until all legal avenues of appeal have been exhausted. Pretty brazen for cheating tax scofflaw.

An illustration in the Mexican sports daily Record showed a pair of scissors slicing off the leg of a doll in a U.S. jersey. The doll was stuck with pushpins, grimaced in pain and its arms were covered in bruises. Stuffing leaked from its No. 10 jersey.

"If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention," Hastings said, as reported by ABC News. "Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through."
Let me get this right-hunting in Alaska means you don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. Good Lord this guy is in Congress.

You Call This Justice?

In a couple of posts earlier I commented on the arrogance of trial lawyer Gerry Spence when he told a group of lawyers that "We are the most important people in America" He also said "
"I want to ask you which would be more important: If all of the doctors in the country somehow disappeared or all the trial lawyers in America somehow disappeared?" he asked. "We can live without medical care, but we cannot live without justice."

Here is an example of that justice.
The Florida Legislature will spend $10.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations that the state illegally sold drivers' personal information to marketing firms over a 4 year period in violation of a federal law.
This sounds good. However, the problem is that the individual drivers will receive "Just one dollar".
Four motorists who originally brought the suit will each receive $3000.
The five law firms that pursued the case for 6 years will divide $2.85 million.

Bush finally does the right thing

Finally. Pres. Bush has finally done the right thing and commuted the sentences of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Unjustly sentenced to 11 and 12 year sentences, the two border heroes will finally be able to be with their families.
For those of you who have written and called the presidents office and your congress criters, thank you. True justice would be for the new justice department to look into this travesty and exonerate the two border agents and charge the rotten DA Johnny Sutton and crew with misconduct and an illegal prosecution but I won't hold my breath on that one. I can only hope that the two border agents can hold on until then.

Although Senator Barack Obama voted for this law, dig this from the ACLU: “The government [is now permitted] to conduct intrusive surveillance without ever telling a court who it intends to spy on, what phone lines and e-mail addresses it intends to monitor, where its surveillance targets are located, why it’s conducting the surveillance or whether it suspects any party to the communication of wrongdoing.”
Some of us began to see how deeply and intricately the telecoms were involved in the NSA’s spying when—as part of an Electronic Frontier Foundation lawsuit—it was revealed by a former AT&T technician, Mark Klein, that he had found a secret AT&T room in which the NSA was tapping into the telecom giant’s fiber-optic cables. On National Public Radio on November 7, 2007, he disclosed: “It’s not just AT&T’s traffic going through these cables, because these cables connected AT&T’s network with other networks like Sprint, Qwest [the one firm that refused to play ball with the government], Global Crossing, UUNet, etc.”

She went on to say, it is "our responsibility to change the current state of world opinion of the US and make the other fingers rise in unison with us as we move forward."

He also believes that illegals are entitled to some form of earned citizenship much like the amnesty bill proposed by the Senate that he said he would have voted against.

Officials at the Mexican consulate in Tucson said they opened the center last week. It is available 24-hours-a-day to field complaints from Mexican nationals about their treatment in the border state, where as many as half a million illegal immigrants live and work in the shadows.

"We want to offer a human voice at the other end of the line, so they can feel protected and know that someone is here for them," Alejandro Ramos, head of the consulate's Department of Protection, told Reuters.

What part of aiding and abetting don't they get? When are our elected officials going to do their job and crack down on these invaders? How much more blatant does it have to get. Good Lord.

Every few weeks for nearly four years, the Secret Service screened the IDs of employees for a Maryland cleaning company before they entered the house of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, the nation's top immigration official.

The company's owner says the workers sailed through the checks -- although some of them turned out to be illegal immigrants.

Now, owner James D. Reid finds himself in a predicament that he considers especially confounding. In October, he was fined $22,880 after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators said he failed to check identification and work documents and fill out required I-9 verification forms for employees, five of whom he said were part of crews sent to Chertoff's home and whom ICE told him to fire because they were undocumented.

Mr. Reid is very upset about getting caught and being fined.
"No one wants to put the blame on the head; they'd rather put the blame on the business owner," said Reid, who owns Consistent Cleaning Services. "Damned if I should be fined for employees that I took over to their house."
Sorry Mr. Reid learn to E-verify or get out the business.

Lest you think this is just one incidence of blown out of proportion, concider this from Fox News in Boston:
Boston, MA (UPI) - The Boston-area port director for U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been arrested on charges she hired undocumented immigrants to clean her condominium.

Lorraine Henderson was arrested Friday, capping an eight-month undercover investigation, The Boston Globe reported Saturday.

Henderson, who directs 190 armed officers who oversee ports of entry in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, became the target of an investigation after a fellow employee told her that her regular cleaner was an illegal immigrant from Brazil.

The United States is reportedly working on the new currency, the Amero, which will be common for the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Amero notes have no portraits of US presidents on them and resemble the Belarussian rubles. For example, there is an image of a deer depicted on a 50-amero note, whereas a picture of a pyramid of Mexican Indians can be seen on a 100-amero note.
Conspiracy theorists contend that the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico are already taking steps to implement such a currency, as part of a "North American Union (NAU)" No current members of any country's government have officially stated a desire to create such a body, nor introduce a common currency.

A Basic Civics Test

While the Democrats beat the bushes for more voters, I wonder if we might be better off if a lot of voters stayed home.

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute gave a basic civic literacy test to 2,500 Americans including college students, elected officials and other randomly selected citizens. Nearly 1,800 flunked the test, in fact, elected officials scored slightly lower than the general public with an average score of 44% compared to 49%. Only 0.8 % scored an A.

I scored a 82 %.

Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation's 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

"Yes We Can" planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald's restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama's honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.
At 7:30 a.m. on Inauguration Day, Obama Cake will be served at the downtown McDonald's, and a celebration is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Jan. 20 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 S.E. 6th.

UPDATE: Plans for making Nov. 4th a national holiday in honor of Barack Obama's election have hit a snag. The owner of the McDonald's isn't on board with the plan.
"You absolutely do not have permission to do any kind of Obama planning," owner Karen Tyler said in a voice mail left on Sonny Scroggins phone..."
