The Cartoons of Michael Ramirez

Homeland Security?

Remember the next time the government or the media go on and on about the possiblity of terrorists thousands of miles away could get a hold of nuclear material and attack us with a dirty bomb or suitcase nuke they are really serious about protecting Americans. That's why they have done such a great job at securing our borders (not). They also have done a tremendous job keeping track of extraneous nuclear material within our borders right? Not so much it appears.

Energy Department Missing Nuclear Material
February 26, 2009 – 15:54

The U.S. Department of Energy cannot account for the quantities and locations of nuclear material at 15 out of 40, or 37 percent, of facilities reviewed by auditors, according to a report released on Monday by Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman. The missing materials included 20,580 grams of enriched uranium, 45 grams of plutonium, 5,001 kilograms of normal uranium and 189,139 kilograms of depleted uranium.

“The department cannot properly account for and effectively manage its nuclear materials maintained by domestic licensees and may be unable to detect lost or stolen material,” the report stated. “Considering the potential health risks associated with these materials and the potential for misuse should they fall into the wrong hands, the quantities written off were significant.”

”Key commitments made by the department were not completed nearly eight years after our earlier audit,” Friedman stated.

Let me get this straight-material from 15 out of 40 facilities is missing and rather than follow up on this they just right it off.

According to Sen. Ron Wyden:
“I think there is a bipartisan consensus in the Senate that the science is in,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, told CSNews.com when asked if the government should implement new policies to apparently combat global warming despite the new study. “This is a very real problem. Now the debate is on the remedies -- but the science is in.”

Well there may be a consensus in the Senate but there is still not a consensus in the scientific community. Saying there is does not make it so.

The study, released on Jan. 28 by Kyle L. Swanson and Anastasios A. Tsonis, who are professors in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, found that the Earth has been cooling since 2001 and projected that due to “global variation” the climate would continue to cool for the next 20 to 30 years.

Global warming, global cooling, I don't know but I do know that there is way too much financial manipulation going on in order to capitalize on the fears that people have concerning this situation.
Stifling Oregon's economy even further will not effect the global climate. With China and India putting 2 coal burning electrical plants into service per week we are just aren't that critical.
Ride your bike when possible. Use less. Recycle. Buy local. Let's rebuild our local economy and help our neighbors, not spend time and money to create roadblocks to our future.

News Updates: Story

COBURG — Oregon State Police troopers on Tuesday arrested two California residents after finding drugs, guns, a set of body armor and nearly $10,000 in their car.

Juan Francisco Jimenez Jr. and Alenia Rosario Nunez were lodged in the Lane County Jail on several felony charges.

Police said a trooper patrolling Interstate 5 about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe just north of Coburg for speeding.

The trooper checked to see if the occupants — Jimenez and Nunez — were wanted, and learned that Jimenez was being sought by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Police said the trooper searched the vehicle and found about 14 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of methamphetamine, two loaded handguns — one of which had been reported as stolen, a set of body armor and about $9,500 in cash.

Jimenez and Nunez face charges of drug possession and money laundering. Jimenez, 34, is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and a felon in possession of body armor. Nunez, 26, faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Both people live in the Los Angeles area, police said.

Employee Appreciation 101

Here is a good old American success story that will get buried under the continuing saga of corrupt politicians, CEO's and bankers giving themselves huge bonuses with our money.
Leonard Abess Jr. the CEO of the Miami-based City National Bancshares retired and sold a majority stake of the bank. Rather than just pocketing the profits he did something rather unusual, he took $60 million out of his own pocket and gave it to the 399 workers on the staff and even 72 former employees that had been with him for a long time. This amounted to tens of thousands of dollars and in some cases, more than one hundred thousand.
I love one of his quotes: " I saw that if the president doesn't come to work, it's not a big deal, he said, But if the tellers don't show up, it's a serious problem."

Former El Paso Border Patrol Agents Released From Prison

At 3 a.m. Mountain time former Border Patrol agent Jose Compean was released from the Elkton Federal Prison in Elkton, Ohio. Former agent Ignacio Ramos was released about five hours later from the Phoenix Federal Prison in Phoenix, Ariz.

Ramos and Compean will “officially” be released from Federal Bureau of Prison custody on March 20, but on Tuesday both were allowed to rejoin their families as part of a house arrest agreement. They had been in prison since January 2007.

Bill Gates releases mosquitoes at TED on Wednesday.
(Credit: James Duncan Davidson for TED)

At the latest TED convention, Bill Gates used a bit of street theater to infect the audience with good old fashioned guilt. Proclaiming that malaria shouldn't be enjoyed by only poor people he released a jar of mosquitoes in the room. He later said that the mosquitoes were not malarial.
While this may have been a very effective display, not too many people have mentioned that even if the mosquitoes did not have malaria, they still can carry up to 50 other vectors and some people are allergic to mosquito bites just like some people have reaction to bee stings or spider bites. Another thing that wasn't mentioned was that bringing insects into California is a very serious matter. The Med-fly, West Nile Virus, lots of problems for the fruit and tree growers.
I just hope that the mosquitoes were native Californians.

Bill's lucky he didn't try this stunt on the Eugene Mall or he might be the next one with his face on the sidewalk crying "Don't Tase Me Bro."

SPEAKING OF BILL GATES AND BUGS, READ THE FOLLOWING FOR A LAUGH.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX),Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,

'If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.'

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part ):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........
Twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again

because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine off

PS - when all else fails, you could call 'customer service' in some foreign country and be instructed in some foreign language how to fix your car yourself!!!!

Nancy (Sanger) Pelosi

In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Speaker of the House Nancy (we're losing 500 million jobs here) Pelosi defended huge sums of money for family planning services.

From the interview:
"Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services," Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi, "how is that stimulus?"

"Well, the family planning services reduce cost," Pelosi answered. "They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."

This eugenics-lite philosophy is coming from the mother of 5 and grandmother of 7.

Here's a suggestion Nancy: If you are concerned about population control how about starting at the most obvious problem-illegal immigration. Millions of illegal mothers coming here with impunity, shunning any form of birth control and actually celebrating the latino high birth rate and continued crowding out of native born citizens. Your screwed up state will never balance it's budget until you come to terms with the illegal situation. Dah.

Eight deaths and more than 550 illnesses have been associated with the samonella outbreak that was traced back to peanut products made by the Peanut Corp. of America.
Stewart Parnell, president of Peanut Corporation, and Sammy Lightsey, manager of the company’s Georgia plant, were subpoenaed by a House committee. But invoking their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, they refused to answer questions.
Shortly after the two settled into their seats, Representative Greg Walden, Republican of Oregon, brandished a large jar wrapped in yellow crime-scene tape that was filled with contaminated cookies and crackers, and he asked the executives, “Would either of you be willing to take the lid off and eat any of these products?” They refused.

"Despite more than 12 tests in 2007 and 2008 that showed salmonella contamination in his company’s products, Mr. Parnell wrote an e-mail message to company employees on Jan. 12 saying, “We have never found any salmonella at all.”
If this were Japan, both officers of this company would have already committed suicide.

What's In It For Me-Al Franken?

Why does it seem that most of the people that want to run our lives don't seem to be able to handle their own affairs worth a damn. From the crooked Obama nominees to Portland's new mayor, they somehow think that laws and rules are for the common sheeple.
Not funny, funnyman Al Franken has just admitted that he owes over $50,000 in back taxes and penalties. He also was hit with a $25,000 penalty for failing to carry worker's comp insurance for his employees in New York. He blames the shortage on his accountant. This is just slightly more plausible than Tom Daschle's Turbo Tax excuse.
Franken is also demanding that the Minnesota Supreme Court direct the Governor and the Sec. of State issue an election certificate declaring him the winner of the senate election even though under current Minnesota law, a winner cannot be certified until all legal avenues of appeal have been exhausted. Pretty brazen for cheating tax scofflaw.

How Strong Will You Finish?

A New Revenue Generator

Maybe Obama is on to something. I would appear that he has stumbled upon a unique way to get deadbeat tax scofflaws to pay up. All you have to do is nominate them for a cabinet position and they almost immediately pony up the back taxes, unpaid taxes on their illegal alien housekeepers and liens on their spouses businesses.
The latest nominee to be tripped up on their way to the White House is Hilda Solis who was chosen as Labor secretary. It was disclosed that her husband paid $6,400 this week to settle numerous tax liens against his business dating to 1993.
These people want to run the country but they can't seem to even run their personal life. Gimme a break.

Do That Voodoo That You Do So Well

From the Houston Chronicle.com

MEXICO CITY — RadioShack Corp. will not sponsor a Mexican newspaper promotion that invited fans to prick voodoo dolls wearing American jerseys to boost the country's soccer team in a World Cup qualifier next month against the United States.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based company said in a statement that it wishes "the very best of luck" to Mexico, the U.S. and all teams in the final round of regional qualifying for next year's tournament.

An illustration in the Mexican sports daily Record showed a pair of scissors slicing off the leg of a doll in a U.S. jersey. The doll was stuck with pushpins, grimaced in pain and its arms were covered in bruises. Stuffing leaked from its No. 10 jersey.

The Smiling Clown

This grinning clown is not only an idiot but apparently very dangerous.
From World Net Daily
By Jerome R. Corsi'

Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., has introduced to the House of Representatives a new bill, H.R. 645, calling for the secretary of homeland security to establish no fewer than six national emergency centers for corralling civilians on military installations. (read-civilian concentration camps)

Obama rather than reducing the over reach of the executive branch that was put into place by Pres. Bush, this bill also appears to expand the president's emergency powers giving the president the authority to declare an emergency and take over the direction of all federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments without even consulting Congress.

This traitor caused some controversy during the 2008 campaign with his provocative comments concerning Sarah Palin. His racist ignorant quote was:
"If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention," Hastings said, as reported by ABC News. "Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through."
Let me get this right-hunting in Alaska means you don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. Good Lord this guy is in Congress.

You Call This Justice?

In a couple of posts earlier I commented on the arrogance of trial lawyer Gerry Spence when he told a group of lawyers that "We are the most important people in America" He also said "
"I want to ask you which would be more important: If all of the doctors in the country somehow disappeared or all the trial lawyers in America somehow disappeared?" he asked. "We can live without medical care, but we cannot live without justice."

Here is an example of that justice.
The Florida Legislature will spend $10.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations that the state illegally sold drivers' personal information to marketing firms over a 4 year period in violation of a federal law.
This sounds good. However, the problem is that the individual drivers will receive "Just one dollar".
Four motorists who originally brought the suit will each receive $3000.
The five law firms that pursued the case for 6 years will divide $2.85 million.

Bush finally does the right thing

From Fox News, 01/19/09:
Finally. Pres. Bush has finally done the right thing and commuted the sentences of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Unjustly sentenced to 11 and 12 year sentences, the two border heroes will finally be able to be with their families.
For those of you who have written and called the presidents office and your congress criters, thank you. True justice would be for the new justice department to look into this travesty and exonerate the two border agents and charge the rotten DA Johnny Sutton and crew with misconduct and an illegal prosecution but I won't hold my breath on that one. I can only hope that the two border agents can hold on until then.

The Black Widow

From 70new.com.

Barack Obama will be in charge of the biggest domestic and international spying operation in history. Its prime engine is the National Security Agency (NSA)—located and guarded at Fort Meade, Maryland, about 10 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. A brief glimpse of its ever-expanding capacity was provided on October 26 by The Baltimore Sun’s national security correspondent, David Wood: “The NSA’s colossal Cray supercomputer, code-named the ‘Black Widow,’ scans millions of domestic and international phone calls and e-mails every hour. . . . The Black Widow, performing hundreds of trillions of calculations per second, searches through and reassembles key words and patterns, across many languages.”
In July, George W. Bush signed into law the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, which gives the NSA even more power to look for patterns that suggest terrorism links in Americans’ telephone and Internet communications.

The ACLU immediately filed a lawsuit on free speech and privacy grounds. The new Bush law provides farcical judicial supervision over the NSA and other government trackers and databasers. Although Senator Barack Obama voted for this law, dig this from the ACLU: “The government [is now permitted] to conduct intrusive surveillance without ever telling a court who it intends to spy on, what phone lines and e-mail addresses it intends to monitor, where its surveillance targets are located, why it’s conducting the surveillance or whether it suspects any party to the communication of wrongdoing.”
Some of us began to see how deeply and intricately the telecoms were involved in the NSA’s spying when—as part of an Electronic Frontier Foundation lawsuit—it was revealed by a former AT&T technician, Mark Klein, that he had found a secret AT&T room in which the NSA was tapping into the telecom giant’s fiber-optic cables. On National Public Radio on November 7, 2007, he disclosed: “It’s not just AT&T’s traffic going through these cables, because these cables connected AT&T’s network with other networks like Sprint, Qwest [the one firm that refused to play ball with the government], Global Crossing, UUNet, etc.”

Then there' s that strange dress Michelle wore for the inauguration.

Economics 101

In ten minutes Peter Schiff explains in simple terms how we got into this economic mess and what we need to do to get through it. He also explains why Obama's answer will only extend and exacerbate the problem. Well worth watching.

Oh no you didn"t!

Maybe you have seen this flamboyant "country lawyer" on TV espousing his homespun wisdom. I have enjoyed his simple charming style but you have to wonder if he maybe is taking his own publicity a little too seriously. The following quotes are from a speech he gave at the annual Consumer Attorneys of California convention in November of 2008:
From Chris Rizo, LegalNewsline:
"We have to redefine who we are: We are the most important people in America," Spence said. "There is no other profession in America that fights for freedom, that fights for what America is about, that fights for justice for ordinary people."
"I want to ask you which would be more important: If all of the doctors in the country somehow disappeared or all the trial lawyers in America somehow disappeared?" he asked. "We can live without medical care, but we cannot live without justice."
Maybe he is queing up for a government bailout for trial lawyers.

Pepsi goes gay

By Chelsea Schilling
© 2009 WorldNetDaily

"One of America's favorite soft drink brands has donated more than a million dollars to homosexual groups – and refuses to give to organizations opposes to homosexuality, one group claims.

Pepsi gifted $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, or HRC, a group that described itself as "America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality," the American Family Association reports. "
"We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG," announced Jacqueline Millan, director of PepsioCo Corporate Contributions. "The Straight for Equality in the Workplace training program is unique in that it is promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups within the local community, and that is a crucial step towards building a healthy work environment."

In 2005, the president of Pepsi, Indra Noori compared the five major continents of the world to the five fingers of the human hand-of course America, not North America, was the middle finger. She went on to say, it is "our responsibility to change the current state of world opinion of the US and make the other fingers rise in unison with us as we move forward."

To this I say-Fuck you Pepsi.

One Down

Good news for those of us that believe in a secure border and sovereignty, Bill Richardson stepped down from the Commerce nomination.
Gov. Bill Richardson is not a friend. He has compared the border fence to "The Berlin Wall".
He also claims that we can't afford to deport the illegals and need them for restaurant, hotel and other small businesses.
He also believes that illegals are entitled to some form of earned citizenship much like the amnesty bill proposed by the Senate that he said he would have voted against.

N.I.M.B.Y.

Let's honor diversity okay. It seems that montra runs a bit thin when faced with the reality. From the Associated Press writer-Paul Elias:
"ANTIOCH, Calif. – As more and more black renters began moving into this mostly white San Francisco Bay Area suburb a few years ago, neighbors started complaining about loud parties, mean pit bulls, blaring car radios, prostitution, drug dealing and muggings of schoolchildren."
"Across the country, similar tensions have simmered when federally subsidized renters escaped run-down housing projects and violent neighborhoods by moving to nicer communities in suburban Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles."
"Longtime homeowners complained that the new arrivals brought crime and other troubles. In 2006, violent crime in Antioch shot up about 19 percent from the year before, while property crime went down slightly.

"In some neighborhoods, it was complete madness," said longtime resident David Gilbert, a black retiree who organized the United Citizens of Better Neighborhoods watch group. "They were under siege."

So the Antioch police in mid-2006 created the Community Action Team, which focused on complaints of trouble at low-income renters' homes."
"That can be a recipe for anxiety," she said. "It can really change the demographics of a neighborhood."

Just imagine what demographic changes result from 20-30 million illegal aliens in your country. But don't say anything about it or you will be called a RACIST.

Invasion U.S.A.

According to Reuters:

By David Schwartz

PHOENIX (Reuters) - The Mexican government has opened a special call center in Arizona to provide a sympathetic ear for citizens caught up in crackdown on illegal immigration in the desert state.

Officials at the Mexican consulate in Tucson said they opened the center last week. It is available 24-hours-a-day to field complaints from Mexican nationals about their treatment in the border state, where as many as half a million illegal immigrants live and work in the shadows.

"We want to offer a human voice at the other end of the line, so they can feel protected and know that someone is here for them," Alejandro Ramos, head of the consulate's Department of Protection, told Reuters.

What part of aiding and abetting don't they get? When are our elected officials going to do their job and crack down on these invaders? How much more blatant does it have to get. Good Lord.

Are We Safe Yet?

In order to see just how serious our own government is about national security and the illegal immigration invasion you need to look no further than our own Homeland Security chief.
From the Washington Post:
By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, December 11, 2008; A01

Every few weeks for nearly four years, the Secret Service screened the IDs of employees for a Maryland cleaning company before they entered the house of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, the nation's top immigration official.

The company's owner says the workers sailed through the checks -- although some of them turned out to be illegal immigrants.

Now, owner James D. Reid finds himself in a predicament that he considers especially confounding. In October, he was fined $22,880 after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators said he failed to check identification and work documents and fill out required I-9 verification forms for employees, five of whom he said were part of crews sent to Chertoff's home and whom ICE told him to fire because they were undocumented.

Mr. Reid is very upset about getting caught and being fined.
"No one wants to put the blame on the head; they'd rather put the blame on the business owner," said Reid, who owns Consistent Cleaning Services. "Damned if I should be fined for employees that I took over to their house."
Sorry Mr. Reid learn to E-verify or get out the business.

Lest you think this is just one incidence of blown out of proportion, concider this from Fox News in Boston:
Boston, MA (UPI) - The Boston-area port director for U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been arrested on charges she hired undocumented immigrants to clean her condominium.

Lorraine Henderson was arrested Friday, capping an eight-month undercover investigation, The Boston Globe reported Saturday.

Henderson, who directs 190 armed officers who oversee ports of entry in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, became the target of an investigation after a fellow employee told her that her regular cleaner was an illegal immigrant from Brazil.

Say It Ain't So Joe.

Sometimes it seems you have to go to great lengths to get even a little bit of information in this information age.
While cruising the internets I came across this interesting article in the Russian Pravda no less.

The United States is reportedly working on the new currency, the Amero, which will be common for the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Amero notes have no portraits of US presidents on them and resemble the Belarussian rubles. For example, there is an image of a deer depicted on a 50-amero note, whereas a picture of a pyramid of Mexican Indians can be seen on a 100-amero note.
Conspiracy theorists contend that the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico are already taking steps to implement such a currency, as part of a "North American Union (NAU)" No current members of any country's government have officially stated a desire to create such a body, nor introduce a common currency.

More Mahony Bologna

A letter to the homosexual members of the Catholic church: Please don't burn my church down.
Bishop Mahony seemed to trip over his vestment trying to assuage the wrath of the gay community over the church's support for Prop. 8.
Rather than coming out and telling the community that the bible says that the homosexual lifestyle is indeed a sin, politically correct Bishop insisted that the Church support was to "resist a legal redefinition of marriage."
The bishops said that from the beginning their purpose was not to ban gay marriage. (Not that there's anything wrong with that)

A Basic Civics Test

While the Democrats beat the bushes for more voters, I wonder if we might be better off if a lot of voters stayed home.

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute gave a basic civic literacy test to 2,500 Americans including college students, elected officials and other randomly selected citizens. Nearly 1,800 flunked the test, in fact, elected officials scored slightly lower than the general public with an average score of 44% compared to 49%. Only 0.8 % scored an A.

I scored a 82 %.
Give it a try if you want.

The One

Why wait.
From the Topeka Capital-Journal
11/09/08

Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation's 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

"Yes We Can" planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald's restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama's honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.
At 7:30 a.m. on Inauguration Day, Obama Cake will be served at the downtown McDonald's, and a celebration is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Jan. 20 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 S.E. 6th.

All I'm Say'n

It's All About the Little Guy

FROM PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA'S VICTORY SPEECH:

"But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to – it belongs to you.

I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington – it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston.

It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause."

While it is true that millions of regular people like Obama's illegal alien aunt on public housing gave their rent money to Obama, the Guardian from London has an interesting list of donors to mister "change".
Goldman Sachs employees and families provided $847,207.
People associated with JP Morgan $581,460.
Citigroup associates $581,216.
The famoulsly liberal University of Cal. employees, members and families gave $909,203.

Yep, it's all about the little guy. Oh yeah, and Change.

Go toward the light

From Wired mag.
"A team of scientists from the United States and China announced last week that, for the first time, they had found a means of selectively and safely erasing memories in mice, using the signaling molecule αCaMKII. It's a big step forward, and one that will be of considerable interest to the military, which has devoted efforts to memory manipulation as a means of treating post-traumatic stress disorder. But some military research has moved in another direction entirely. "

Yes let's simply erase any memory of anything we don't like. And perhaps the memory of the Constitution and founding fathers. What better way to reprogram than to start with a clean slate.

Bailout or Buy Out?

It's nice to know that when the federal government trough is open one of our local banks is not asleep at the wheel.
The Register Guard. on 10/29/08 had an article claiming that Umpqua Holdings, the parent company of Umpqua Bank has received preliminary approval of its application for $214 Million in investment money from the U.S. Treasury.
In their lame attempt to jump-start the economy and unfreeze the credit market the feds are throwing this money around like horny college kids at a strip club.

What is sad is that the idea behind the money was to open up the credit crunch. To make it easier and more attractive for banks to make loans-but Umpqua brags that they don't need the money for that so they are planning on "increasing our footprint". In other words they are going to use our money for mergers and acquisitions and "explore new market opportunities". Maybe they can use it to purchase some subprime loans or credit defaults.

The feds in turn will be getting senior preferred shares in return, the bank will now be in business with the government.
Ideas like this would have never been entertained even a few years ago, now it seems like no big deal.

Remember Every Vote Counts

Maybe. Almost eight years after the voting debacle with hanging chads and Supreme Court decisions we are no more secure in our voting legitimacy than ever. Watch this video for the latest electronic voting machine fraud. Who makes these machines, Ronco?

Yes-Finally!!!

"Washington, DC -- October 23, 2008
City Must Follow State Law Requiring Police Officers to Report Suspected Aliens Arrested on Drug Charges to Feds

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that the First District Court of Appeal for the State of California has ruled in a Judicial Watch taxpayer lawsuit that the San Francisco Police Department must comply with a state law requiring police officers to notify federal authorities when they arrest a person for various narcotics offenses whom they suspect to be an alien, legal or illegal [Fonseca v. Fong, Case No. A120206].

The appellate court reversed a lower court ruling that the SFPD was not required to obey the law because the law in question, Section 11369 of the California Health and Safety Code, invaded the federal government's exclusive power to regulate immigration. "
"As a result of the appellate ruling, San Francisco must now end its sanctuary policy that protects aliens arrested for certain drug offenses from being reported to ICE."

More on the Unfairness Doctrine

The Democrat Senator from New Mexico, Jeff Bingaman, has joined the band wagon to protect us from the evils of talk radio. He is unhappy that we little people have the option of listening to what ever we like. He is under the impression that the government would be able to determine "fairness" and somehow implement it on the airwaves. The only thing they could possibly accomplish is to stifle free speech drive radio stations out of business.

The Truth Shall Set You Free

The Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas has just released a report varifying what some of us have known for years. Illegal immigration and crime go hand in hand.

The analysis found that in 2007, illegal immigrants accounted for 21.8% of the felonies compared to an estimated population of 9%.

And It's All George Bush's Fault.

I would never try to defend George Bush's policy decisions to anyone. But in order to solve a problem you have to first determine the cause. This video while being prejudice gives a little insight to the depth of the corruption in our system.

My uneducated opinion is the actual underlying reason, beside greed, is that we no longer manufacture hardly anything. Some people seem to believe that you can base an economy on pushing paper around. These same people seem to think that we will be just fine replacing all of our good paying jobs with service jobs at minimum wage and still fund more and more government services. They also believe that a country can import an unlimited volume of unskilled labor and destroy our unions, standard of living and ecology. They also seem to believe that you can and must sell houses to people who can't afford them and sometimes are illegals.

An economy based on more and more consumption to more and more people is not only undesirable but also unsustainable. If you believe that it is necessary to our well being to decrease our population rather than expand it you would have to agree that it is counterproductive to tie such a large percentage of our economy on building houses. More houses require more people to build and fill them. They consume a large amount of resources to build and even more to maintain. They force us to either build outward into farm able land or crowd too many people into cities creating the problems associated with that.

For a good discussion on some of the reasons for limiting growth and achieving a sustainable level of economy that benefits everyone go to Casse

We're From The Government and We're Here To Help

When the reality of the economy collapse sinks in there will undoubtedly be civil unrest and possibly rioting in the streets. But have no fear. The government is gearing up for this event as we speak.
"Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks."

"They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack."

“It’s a new modular package of nonlethal capabilities that they’re fielding. They’ve been using pieces of it in Iraq, but this is the first time that these modules were consolidated and this package fielded, and because of this mission we’re undertaking we were the first to get it.”

The package includes equipment to stand up a hasty road block; spike strips for slowing, stopping or controlling traffic; shields and batons; and, beanbag bullets.

“I don’t know what America’s overall plan is — I just know that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines that are standing by to come and help if they’re called,” Cloutier said. “It makes me feel good as an American to know that my country has dedicated a force to come in and help the people at home.”

"we're from the government and we're here to help"

Sorry Gordon, wrong number.

Today in my email I received a heart tugging plea from Sen Gordon Smith begging for money. Sorry Gordon but I don't have any extra money and if I did I would donate it to one of the groups that are working to do your job, protect the border from the illegal invasion. For a good laugh read the following:

Dear GOPUSA Activist:

Last week, The Hill, one of Capitol Hill's leading newspapers, reported that Chuck Schumer and the DSCC have spent more money attacking me than any other Senate race in the country.

For over a year, national Democrats have set their sights on me for defeat. In fact, they and other special interest groups have already spent over $6 million attacking me and distorting my record. By the time we get to Election Day, that number will reach over $20 million dollars!

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, at the orders of hyper-partisan Senator Chuck Schumer, has placed an additional $5 million in attack ads against me.

I'm reaching out to you today because I know you will help me fight back against Chuck Schumer and his cronies. Without your emergency contribution donated in the next 24 hours, the national Democrats will continue to try to buy this Senate seat.

My opponent - Jeff Merkley - is just another poisonous partisan, hand-picked by Chuck Schumer to do his dirty work. Any candidate could be propped up by the millions spent distorting my record. Some national pundits like Charlie Cook have even declared the race a "toss up."

That's why we have to keep fighting back. We must continue to stay strong until Election Day. Only with your help will our campaign have the funds needed to fight back against Schumer, Merkley, and their liberal Washington friends.

Your support today is critical. As the Democrat's top target, I need as many resources as I can to fight back against their attacks. Won't you help me by making a contribution of $25, $50, $100, $500, or even more so we can get the real truth out?

Recently at the Democratic National Convention Howard Dean told the Oregon delegation that Democrats were going to "beat the hell" out of me, and Chuck Schumer pledged, "Jeff Merkley will not lose because of a lack of dollars."

In order to combat all of the attacks, we've had to increase our fundraising budget by $2 million. We need your help today because if we hit that fundraising goal, we can continue to combat the attacks from Schumer and Merkley and get the real truth out to Oregon voters.

As we race toward November 4, there will be many battles to fight, but I am confident that with your help, Oregon's Senate seat will safely stay in Republican hands.

Sincerely,

Gordon Smith

P.S. There is no question that I am the number one target of Democrats this fall. They have now spent more money attacking me then any other candidate in the country and I need your immediate help to fight back. I'm relying on you to be a part of my team and help us get the real truth out. Please visit this link and make an emergency contribution in the next 24 hours so we can fight today!

Dennis Quixote Rides Again

Dennis Kucinich's quest to impeach President Bush got the expected neutering from the lame-assed Democratic leadership. While I personally would love to see President Bush and Vice President Chaney investigated for the lies, misdeeds, and destruction of our Constitution, as usual the "opposition" party walks hand in hand in these transgressions.
Kucinich is going to be allowed to investigate the president with the following conditions:
no suggestions of mendacity-deception, falsehood, lying.
no accusations of hypocrisy or demagoguery.
no personal abuse, innuendo, or ridicule.

Former Los Angeles County Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, known for his prosecution of Charles Manson in 1970, acknowledged that "I am forbidden from accusing him of a crime, or even any dishonorable conduct" under House rules. But he could still encourage people to read his book, "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder.

This is just one more reason that we need a third party. The obviously incestuous relationship enjoyed by the current group of criminals needs to be destroyed.

Some Good News

Just a little good news:
Hazelton mayor Lou Barletta was named Mayor of the Year by the Pennsylvania state Mayors.
Go Lou Go.

Justice Watch has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. State Dept. for that agency's failure to turn over certain documents related to the prosecution of Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean.
The FOIA request was filed by Judicial Watch on April 17, 2008. The government failed to respond within their own guidelines of 20 days, nor have they since.
Just what are they hiding? I think we already know the answer to that.

There must be something in the water.

Is it the fact that they are constantly being filmed or is there something in the water that is causing these people to say really dumb things?
First while trying to expound on America's ability to rise to any challenge or attack, Obama says-
"Throughout our history, America's confronted constantly evolving danger, from the oppression of an empire, to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world."
I don't know about you but I saw the movie and it appeared there were numerous bombs, torpedos, and kamakazis involved in the Pearl Harbor attack.

Second, Dan Rather in an attempt to defend Jesse Jackson's "cut off his balls" comment, directed at Obama, he referred to Obama as Osama Bin Ladin. Yeah Dan, it's time to retire.

No Mosque, No Mosque

It appears that even ubertolerant Europe may have reached it's limits.
According to a story in the USA today, "Europeans are increasingly lashing out at the construction of mosques in their cities as terrorism fears and continued immigration feed anti-Muslim sentiment across the continent."
"The latest dispute is in Switzerland, which is planning a nationwide referendum to ban minarets on mosques. This month, Italy's interior minister vowed to close a controversial mosque in Milan. "
• In Austria, the southern province of Carinthia passed a law in February that effectively bans the construction of mosques by requiring them to fit within the overall look and harmony of villages and towns.
• Far-right leaders from 15 European cities met in Antwerp, Belgium, in January and called for a ban on new mosques and a halt to "the Islamization" of European cities. The group said mosques act as catalysts for taking over neighborhoods and imposing Islamic ways of life on Europeans.

Some analysts call the mosque conflicts the manifestation of a growing fear that Muslims aren't assimilating, don't accept Western values and pose a threat to security. Does that sound familiar?

A Big Mac Attack

This is a good first step.
According to a USA today report a Reno area McDonalds restaurant franchisee will pay a $1 million fine for giving false Social Security numbers to illegal aliens.
According to the plea agreement, Mack Associates management hired people known to live in the U.S. illegally, and gave them names and S.S. numbers belonging to other individuals.
The director of operations and the franchisee's former vice president pleaded guilty to aiding and abbetting an alien to remain in the U.S. Both men face a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
This is good start in showing the employers that what they are doing will no longer be tolerated.
Good work guys.

This just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.

This just seems to get more and more strange. A 20 year old Irish national comes to America to live out the American Dream, hitting the road to see the country. Instead, he ends up gunned down in the small town of Silverton Or. by the local police. The real question is how did this dream go so awry?
According to the AP, the family described the young man as mentally ill. While staying with his sister and brother-in-law he was in the habit of banging on their door when he wanted in. He may have gotten confused and knocked on the wrong door. The police were responding to a possible burglary attempt.
Many questions remain. First, why was it necessary to shot the man seven times? Was he armed? Did he pose an eminent threat of danger? Doesn't there seem to be just too much use of deadly force lately? Does every incident have to end in tasering or shooting?
Second, why is a mentally ill man allowed to come to this country with no means of support to just wander around? Why was he allowed to overstay his visa by 6 months.?
To complicate matters, the officer involved in the shooting has now been accused of sexually abusing a girl. This just keeps getting more and more unreal.

We don't need no stinkin' property rights!

From World Net Daily.

The Colorado Supreme Court today ruled that parks and open space are so important in Colorado cities have the right to condemn property – even outside their borders – to prevent development on land officials want for the public.
The case result announced today involved the "Valley Floor" land just outside the exclusive mountain town of Telluride, which demanded nearly 600 acres of private land owned by several corporations essentially representing Neal Blue, the owner of General Atomics which builds the nation's Predator drone aircraft.

He had proposed several years ago building 22 homes on 64 acres of his private land, and providing new sites for a hospital and school. Then the rest of the land – 91 percent – would be placed under a conservation easement to protect it forever.
The property, if there is no further court action, will be transferred to the city, which must generate about $50 million in payment. However, that already has been set aside by the town where Tom Cruise, Daryl Hanna, diplomat Richard Holbrooke and eBay CEO Meg Whitman have residences.

While this may look like just an example of a few super rich brats ganging up on another super rich brat, it really is another example of judges breaking the state constitution and possibly getting away with it.

A Step in the Right Direction

"The [Phoenix] police department is two weeks away from implementing a new policy which will allow officers to more easily contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about persons they suspect are in the country illegally…Currently, officers do not have as much discretion to do that unless a suspect is booked on criminal charges."

Other cities will be watching how this event in America's fifth largest city plays out. With any luck we will see the trend toward sancuary cities disappear.

REMINDER!!!!

Tomorrow, April 29th. is the deadline for registering to vote or changing your party affiliation in Oregon and still be able to vote in the May primary! If you plan on voting for Ron Paul in the primary you must be registered as a Republican. If you want you can print out the voter's registration card by going to the Oregon voters website and downloading a copy. You must still drop off the form at the elections office. I think that mailing it would not get it there in time. Don't miss this opportunity to make your voice heard.

Thank you President Bush

People of New Orleans, you may not have a place to live but at least you have a new Mexican Consulate. George Bush was delighted to be on hand to celebrate the reopening of the consulate April 21st.
I wasn't aware that we can thank the Mexican military for their assistance in the Katrina disaster. I wonder if this is the same military that has been shooting at American civilians and border patrol and directing drug traffickers?

Oh and we can also thank President Calderone for the following reassuring words:

"And this consulate in New Orleans, the 48th of our country on U.S. soil and the fifth that Mexico has opened during my administration, will contribute to the purpose of strengthening the ties between Mexico and the United States, and so that North America moves towards a future of prosperity and security for our nations. May all Mexicans who live in the United States know, and in particular those who are living in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi, that my administration will continue to watch over its -- their security and their rights."

"Thank you very much, Mr. President, for being here, and much success to these new consular offices. Thank you very much. (Applause.)"

Yes and thank you for bringing us one step closer to the North American Union and destroying our sovereignty. Thanks a bunch.

Bad Science Can Kill

At the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on March 3rd., Lord Christopher Monckton, former adviser for Margaret Thatcher warns that Global Warming Alarmism can kill people if you "...get the science wrong."
“I think the question you’re asking is who’s behind the scare,” Monckton said. “There’s been a long history of scares recently and scientific frauds of various kinds. It began, I suppose, with the eugenics movement in the 1930s which led to Hitler. It followed on with the Lysenko movement in Russia under Stalin. It went on with the great leap back under Chairman Mao which led again to tens of millions of deaths. The point you’re making is that this kills people if you get the science wrong.”

Monckton used the banning of DDT, which was linked to the deaths of 40 million children dying from malaria, as an example. The World Health Organization lifted the ban on Sept. 14, 2006, and that was, as Monckton said, “The science standing in front of politics.”

Monckton held the media responsible for the one-sided portrayal of the climate change issue and stated that global warming alarmism can be defeated when refuted by science.
“You sell far more papers by saying, ‘Gee, wow – World to End; Shock; Sensation’ than you do by saying ‘Climate Continues to [be] Changeable,’ which is the truth,” Monckton said.

Monckton told the audience that the science will eventually prevail and the “scare” of global warming will go away.

“They’ve got the science wrong and it will gradually penetrate to the general public that they have got the science wrong and once the penny drops – that will be the end of this scare too,” Monckton added. “We’re not far away from it now.”

Art major Aliza Shvarts '08 wants to make a statement.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.
The display of Schvarts' project will feature a large cube suspended from the ceiling of a room in the gallery of Green Hall. Schvarts will wrap hundreds of feet of plastic sheeting around this cube; lined between layers of the sheeting will be the blood from Schvarts' self-induced miscarriages mixed with Vaseline in order to prevent the blood from drying and to extend the blood throughout the plastic sheeting.

Schvarts will then project recorded videos onto the four sides of the cube. These videos, captured on a VHS camcorder, will show her experiencing miscarriages in her bathrooom tub, she said. Similar videos will be projected onto the walls of the room.
